Filling and emptying a barrel
« on: May 22, 2018, 07:23:19 pm »
Curious as to how people are filling and emptying their barrels.

Does anyone have a closed transfer process?  I know I'll pick up 02 in the barrel, but still it would be good to minimize it on transfer.

My barrel has about 3.5 gallons of Beam in it that I need to get out.

Do they make a double drilled stopper that fits?

Howdy got notification you were looking for a method.  Well I used THIS>>>

And Yes they do make 2 holed stoppers I had to do a lot of google searching finally found one.
It is white silicone.  Sorry can't recall the source.

I assume you have a couple kegs?  Fill one with CO2 gas and use it to Carefully push the beer
from your cask into a receiving Keg.  If you get too much pressure it will eject your 2 holed
stopper.  I found it easy to hold one hand on the stopper until I got the method down.

Word of caution Joe, when you put the Beam into an acrylic racking cane/tube, the alcohol
may cause the plastic to craze and crack to smithereens. Best to use glass, s.s., or copper tube.

Good luck.

Cool.  Thanks.  Good to know about the racking cane.  I have a stainless one that I will use.

Just drained the barrel.  7 handles of Beam went in 4.75 came out.  Sat for about 8 months or so.  It's nice.  Oaky but not overpowering.  Dark ruby.

Gonna fill it with stout tomorrow.
