Dear yeast...
« on: August 10, 2010, 02:52:26 pm »
I'm glad that you're happy and healthy and having fun, but next time I go on vacation could you please stay in the bucket where I put you? I really don't want to come home to a beer fridge full of glopy brown mess again.

Thanks,

Bruce

In five years of brewing I've only had a blow-off maybe twice, so I don't usually worry about it. This is the first time I've been able to keep the beer cool during the summer so maybe that had something to do with it...

I had a blow out once. It sprayed brown goopy sticky hop bit mess all over the wall and ceiling. What a mess.

I awoke late one night to a loud hiss about every 30 seconds. The top of the ferm-lock had blown off and the carboy was spraying down the guest bathroom- walls, ceiling, floor. It was a real mess. Darn hefeweizen yeast!

This was 1028. Weird. Hope it turns out ok. I could barely get the starter to go. Guess it made up for that.

Yep... I had oatmeal stout all over my white walls, carpet, and couch after my airlock blew off during the workday. I came home and found it in my living room floor... about 15 ft. away.

Well, the mystery has been solved. Turns out we had a power failure while we were away. My poor beer probably got up to 70+ for a few hours. Hope it ends up ok.

Yep, just got done wiping down the walls. Sangiovese, the red splatters against the sand colored walls actually wasn't that bad of a look. Wiped right up - never had wine spew before.

I have. Sophmore in highschool. Red wine spew after a half gallon of Burgundy.   :-X

Update on this. Do not let your fermenting beer get to 70/80 degrees if it should be at 65 or so. This batch has a sort of chemical/burnt rubber aftertaste. A sad waste of good Cascade hops. Not super awful but it is now in my secret stash for emergencies only. Maybe a few weeks will help it.

I never have blowouts. Probably because I'm too damn lazy to make a starter.

Somebody is due for a blow off...

 ;D

You said it, now it will happen!

Some yeast just can't help but blow-off, no matter what you do or don't do for them.

Ah, I recall cleaning the ceiling in the living room of our last house so we could sell it...
