Is this top cropping??
« on: July 31, 2018, 08:42:11 am »
I recently had a eruption from the FV. I had a blow off tube into a 1g carboy 1/2 full of a solution of Star SAN. Once the fermentation calmed down I removed the tube and bottle to clean out and reinstall. I did notice a large amount of what appeared to be yeast in the bottom of the container. This did get me thinking. Assuming this is the same as top cropping, if I using sterilised water in the bottle rather than Star SAN, could I reuse this yeast I’ve collected?

Maybe...I don't know if I'd be brave enough to do it.

Better to just harvest it after racking the beer from above it. Less chance of introducing an infection.
