If you served just one beer
« on: September 29, 2018, 02:10:50 pm »
...what would it be?

At the end of October, my son is raising funds for a friend with cancer.  He wants to know if I can donate a keg of beer and he can fill glasses for those who pitch in a donation. I’d be happy to.

But what beer?  1) Appease the BMC crowd with a Cream Ale, Fizzy Yellow Beer, or similar, 2) satisfy the IPA groupies, 3) donate the Brown Ale I already brewed and am about to keg, 4) or other?

There is no way to satisfy everyone's taste with a single beer. I recommend going with what works for you, and the Brown Ale seems to fit that bill.

I think it depends on who you think is drinking it. My world definitely divides into fizzy yellow beer drinkers and IPA drinkers. Of course, there are people who appreciate the other styles, but choosing either of those two will please a lot of people.

A well brewed Kolsch would be appreciated by most craft brew drinkers and BMC drinkers alike. One of the few styles I would choose without knowing the preferences of those drinking it.
Beer is my bucket list,

The brown does seem like a good choice, or how about an American amber lager?  Like the brown, it can be nicely balanced to have complexity and plenty of flavor with no one flavor reaching potentially off-putting levels.

This beer always seems to please a crowd. I came up with it early in my homebrewing journey to approximate Corona and of course it tastes nothing like it, but turned out to be delicious.

I was going to say altbier, but your brown ale will probably fit the bill in similar fashion.  Cheers.

I recommend serving the beer you are most proud of. Everybody taste is different, so it may not be everyone's favorite. But, if it is a good beer, that will enhance the event and give you a good reputation as a home brewer.
