Howmany Apples does it take

Ok I have access to an apple press and apples - how many apples do I need to get 5 gal. of cider?
It's an early apple crop with lots of utility grade apples avaialbe so it's cider making time.

It takes around 12lbs to 14lbs for a gallon. I think it works out to 1 1/2 bussels?

1 bushel of apples will get you about 2 to 3 gallons of cider.

So 2 or 3 bushels of apples will be needed to produce 5 gallons of cider.

My experience is the same as akr71. I have two bushels in the cellar now waiting to press this weekend and I expect to get somewhere in the neighborhood of five gallons.

I always work on the rule of thumb of kilos divided by five roughly equals gallons

Ok course YMMV and it depends whether you save the pulp from your cheeses to give it a second pressing.

It depends somewhat on the weather/rainfall, also.  I get more juice out of the apples if it's been raining or freezing before I harvest them.
