RI is only 2 states away.  NY->CT->RI :)

Matty's on Long Island.  If he's a good swimmer it's only 1 state away.  ;D

dont mean to get off topic, but will there be a homebrew con in NY ever?

Who knows?  Are there clubs in NY that want to make it happen?
unfortunately not that i know of, i have no clue about any brew clubs in my area or the NYC area, but  i hope one HBC happens within at least a state or 2 away cause im a broke butthead and cant afford travelling, but have a dream of attending a HBC, oneday matty oneday

Given that we try to move it around, RI is likely the closest you'll see for a while.

In the spirit of transparency, it might help if the criteria and/or process used to decide where the conference is held could be published openly so the conspiracy theory of a handful of entrenched insiders gathered in a ‘smoke filled room’ to toss a coin is eliminated.

I thought it as pretty well explained in this thread. In a nutshell, we look for an area we haven't been in recently.  We look to see if there is a facility there for the correct priceat the right time of year.  We look to see if there are clubs there who want to organize it.  We look to see if liquor laws allow it.  If all of those come together, becomes a possibility.

Explained fairly well — yes. Published decision making criteria — none that anyone can point the members to.

Something happens when criteria is written down, published, and followed.  It puts everyone on the same page — not just the small group who makes the call. It is after all an organization of members.

I don't see why that can't happen, although I don't have final say. I assume Gary and Jeff are still following this thread.  We have a GC conference call next week and I'll see if I can get it added to the agenda.

It would be a good topic, Denny.

Anyway some one can list the states where it is prohibitive to have the conference?

Any chance we can get an answer to this question?  I think it would help motivate some clubs.

Interesting thought. While I’m not sure there is a list, I’m betting that the AHA events planning staff has some semblance of a list.

Such a list could energize grass roots efforts to petition representatives for a change in legislation.  Free the Hops!

HIJACK,

Sorry guys, but I see that there are two threads for HomebrewCon on the forum.  I play nicely and would like to share my Providence Biltmore room with anyone attending the conference.  Link to the other thread below.

If you are interested (well more interested and committed than my mate that bailed, no problem with his legitimate reasons) send me an email grod5@tpg.com.au

Wanted to throw this out there...Experimental Brewing is co-hosting at party with Country Malt Group at HBC in Providence on Wed. night before the conference starts.  There will be buses running from the convention center to the brewery where the party is being held.  More info soon, but save the date!

It took me a while to process, but should "competing" be "cohosting"?
