The most important question that hasn't been asked yet...where is it going to be next year?
Is it too early to ask this?
I read a article that said Cleveland was in the running, but that was a couple years ago. Hopefully the date is kept the same as the last couple years. I like having it at the end of June and my son graduates High School next year earlier in June.
And oh...Happy First Day of Spring!
Cleveland is still on the short list for a future conference. However, to hold the conference there, we need to amend the Ohio Liquor Law which currently says nothing about transporting and serving of homebrewed beer, etc. The problem is that the Ohio Dept of Liquor Control (ODL) considers the transportation and serving of untaxed alcoholic beverages at something like Homebrew Con to be a violation of the open container provisions of the law. When the conference was held in Cincinnati in 2008, the AHA needed to obtain a special permit to hold the conference there which is no longer a given.
Long story short, I have been working with State Legislators in Ohio and the AHA for the last couple years to try to get the liquor law amended so that it agrees with the federal law that legalized homebrewing in 1979 and permits the transportation and serving of these beverages at things like Homebrew Con. But as you all know, changing a government law moves slower than a snail's pace. I am hoping we can get something done on this issue during the current year. KYFC
