Thanks for sharing.  Those malts give that beer a gorgeous color.

SABL clone attempt.

I travel too much and sometimes SABL is the best beer in the hotel bar. But that's okay. I like SABL.  On a recent trip I got it in my head to try and clone it. Mine is not bad. But a bit different. I think English crystal may be too rich. American C60 might have been a better choice. I used Safale K97. Not bad but not quite as crisp. Other than that. I think I did pretty good.

I agree!  SABL ain't a bad pour at all, and often times it is the best beer available.  Nice looking lager there!

I hope to get better pics of this, but I brewed a 95% Red X a few weeks back. I've never used it and wanted to get a feel of its characteristics. It has a nice color, but I think it could be enhanced with some roast barley, crystal malt, or other such malts. It is also fairly flat in flavor. Not much depth. They say it can be used for 100% of the bill, but I don't think I'd recommend it. It needs more. Overall, it looks ok and tastes ok.

Looks great though.  Good advice - I've been meaning to try that malt soon and will heed your recommendation.

FWIW, I wouldn't add a lot of crystal to it. Haven't brewed with it yet, but I've tried a couple beers brewed with it. It has a pretty malty character to it, like using a fairly high % of Munich IMO. I could see it working pretty well with a little Victory. All depends on what you're after though.

That's very true. It is a malty grain. Maybe Victory would be a better choice. Or Pale chocolate or brown malt. I also laid low on the hops to push the Red X flavors. I think Red X would be a good IPA malt as well. Something I may play with.

Beutiful beer. I bet it tasted great. It's only 8am, but that makes me drool for a beer.

Whole bird on the grill.  Sipping on this American Wheat.  Perhaps I can force spring to arrive by sheer force of will.

It's been lagering for 2 months now.  There's no removing the haze from 25% rye malt and 25% wheat malt!
