My first lager, a Marzen, just in time for Oktoberfest.

That’s okay. In the US, Oktoberfest beer is for the period after shandies and summer wheats but before pumpkin beer.

Pumpkin beer has become a year-round seasonal, unfortunately IMHO.

I have always said that a festbier in any number of iterations is good enough to be served year-round.  Do I like it more because it's a seasonal thing?  Maybe.  Would a person in your home brewery look at you funny if you offered them a festbier in January or February?  Maybe.  You may have to call it something else... Bavarian Lager, Tent Beer, Celebratory Lagerbier, etc.  :D    I do try to have mine ready so that it's brought to the taps in mid-to-late September but if it's served anytime between later summer and the Holidays I feel like it's all good.

To me, some of the important parts of timing were brewing it in March, lagering it until September, and then tapping it during Oktoberfest time, all of which I did, as Brewbama indicated.  That picture was actually taken in September while I was brewing another beer.  Happy that I still have some to drink.

Don't worry about beer or festival schedules relative to styles to make - it is part of the reason we homebrew (making what we want when we want it)!  Would anyone question serving a Vienna Lager at only specific times of the year?  I would not!  Cheers.

I certainly didn’t mean to imply a certain style can only be brewed or consumed at certain times of the year, I was simply pointing out that the beer was “just in time for Oktoberfest” was a bit late based on the date the statement was made.

I'm not claiming any specific knowledge about when anyone thought Oktoberfest is.  I know quite a few people who naturally assume Oktoberfest is in October and did myself at one time.  I wouldn't sweat it much either way.

I also just tapped my Oktoberfest a week or two ago.  In my case it was because a tap finally opened up.  My consumption this year can't keep up with normal production schedule.  In year's past I'm scrambling to brew to keep the taps full.  This year, it's basically just me and it takes a long time to drink the amounts I have on hand.  I may not actually make anything until December based on inventory and consumption.  New brewers who may have just started because of the lockdowns are still learning (just like the rest of us).

It's just another example of 2020.

Here's a more normal 2021 (he hopes!).
