I recently brewed a Pliny clone (using a MoreBeer kit), and did a side-by-side comparison (blogged here: https://andybrews.com/2022/02/25/pliny-vs-pliny/). My version is really good, but the Pliny version is just better. The hop aroma pops in a way that mine does not...but, I have an idea on how to adjust for my next version. It's not often I get to sample a clone recipe directly next to a fresh version of the original, so this was a really fun experiment.

My clone is on the left; the original Pliny the Elder is on the right.
Well they both look great!

Doesn't Russian River change from year to year? Could be a 2020 Pliny recipe (or earlier) vs current.

I would bet that's part of the difference!

Looks nice and please explain the adjunct part.  Dark lager with corn so more of a Mexican Vienna?  Looks delish.

Yeah basically my take on a Mexican Vienna
71% Vienna
14% Pilsner
14% flaked corn
1% carafa special ii

Bitter with sterling
1/2 oz sterling @ 10 min

1.053
26 ibu
34/70 warm

Yours looks amazing by the way!

That looks great.  I like recipes like this.  I know we live in a DIPA world but a dark, smooth lager like this is great.  I'm doing something similar next week but a dark ale.  No adjuncts.  Northern Brewer to about 25 IBUs and S-04.  My next lager yeast is WLP940 Mexican so there will be more Mexican Viennas coming up.  Cheers Brother.

A SMaSH brew -- Viking pilsner malt, Cascade hops that my dad grew, and Belgian Abbaye ale yeast (Lallemand). 1.043 o.g., 3.8% abv, 19 IBU. I call it "The Simple Monk," as my (pure fantasy) interpretation of a patersbier-type brew. It drinks very well, and is pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. Details at the blog: https://andybrews.com/2022/03/04/the-simple-monk/

Today it's a "Pub Ale".  2-Row, British Crystal, Northern Brewer to bitter and Goldings late.  Delish.
