Cold IPA

Looks great!  A Cold IPA is next on my agenda.

Curious as to what yeast you used.  I'll be using W-34/70, pitching cold and letting it gradually warm to low-mid 60's.

Used 34/70 at 58F then let it gradually get to 65F to finish.

That looks great. Is there anything thing besides the yeast that makes it an IPL? I have been thinking about making an IPL with the Novalager slurry I have in the fridge. I think Novalager would do well there.

the phrase IPL makes a lot more sense to me than cold IPA... my 2 cents.

No idea. Seems like cold ipa is a gimmick to make people think they’re drinking something different. I think I’ve seen cold ipa recipes with more adjuncts like rice or corn. My IPL is Pilsner with a bit of Munich and Diamond yeast. I do like cold ipas but again they’re pretty much IPLs to me…

My version has a dry finish compared to a traditional IPA with the addition of malted corn and cane sugar and no crystal malt. It has a nice malt backbone and citrus flavor with Amarillo and Azacca hops. It's a good beer for the summer. But I still like west coast IPA the best. This was only the second time I've brewed a Cold IPA.

Brooklyn Lager tribute

This is my first beer with Novalager yeast. It turned out great. The picture above is at 2 weeks past kegging. The beer is very clear (the glass has condensation from humidity here). The beer tastes great. Nice caramel, Munich malt flavors. Medium to low cascade and Edelweiss hop flavors.

Recipe taken from this clone: https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/homebrew-recipe/brooklyn-brewery-brooklyn-lager/

Substituted Vanguard, Saphir, and Hallertau Mittefrueh all with Edelweiss.

PS. If you like Boston Lager, try this recipe. It’s very similar.

Ken’s Czech Lager.

I copied a recipe Ken (Village Taphouse) posted, changed the hops to German Saaz and changed the yeast to Novalager.

Very nice beer. Bready mellow lager with floral spicy hop flavors. Very poundable. It leans malty.

This is my second Novalager brew. This was brewed May 14 and kegged May 20.  It is still slightly cloudy, seems mature and ready to drink. My other Novalager also matured very fast.
