That's a good description - Mutt beer. I've done that many times when I wanted to use up extra malts that were in my brewery Cheers!

absolutely horrible pic on my dying phone of an all-nugget but somewhat mutt IPA. mix of pils, vienna, 2row and "quebecoise" malt with all nugget hops. i wouldnt do it again, it has harsh flowers, earth, pit fruits (prolly not from the hops), tiny menthol, cool thyme-like spices.

would not do again

Yeah the funny thing is it was preconceived. I only keep pils and Munich on hand for the most part.

I have always used Nugget with other hops. I could see it not being very pleasant alone.

Troegs wonderful Nugget Nectar is a blend of Nugget, Tomahawk, Warrior, Simcoe and Palisade.

Nugget is pretty neutral.  I have made beers with just one addition of Nugget at the start of the boil and also beers with Nugget for bittering and then maybe a 1/2 ounce at flameout.  It's righteous all by itself.

American pale ale on tap at the house...I've been drinking a lot of this style lately.

The recipe is closely patterned after one from Gordon Strong in a recent BYO issue; very much a "classic" APA. I'm absolutely loving it!

Beautiful looking beer! I still brew APA multiple times a year. It’s nice to get great malt and hop flavor with a lower ABV than an IPA.

Thank you! I'm really proud of the appearance on this one...it dropped clear quite quickly even without gelatin, which isn't always the case. APA is such a satisfying style!

I seem to have good luck making this style.  You could easily compare it to Shiner Bock and [stretching now] Dos Equis Amber or Negra Modelo.  Pilsner or 2-row, a bit of dark crystal, flaked corn and some midnight wheat (or Carafa) and then usually one addition of a neutral hop (Northern Brewer on this one) for 24-25 IBUs.  Sometimes a late addition too depending on my mood.  I've had so many people drink the hell out of this style and I plan to make another batch of it with Nova.  The one in the picture was brewed with 2124.  Cheers brother.
