yeah - I used a lot more in that marzen I pictured above - i'll have to check how much but I think it was pretty close to what you posted above. .
I just worry with maibock/golden bock of maintaining the dry finish.
i just realized why you were questioning...i read marzen not maibock in Joe's post! agree- for dry (1.010 or less) the 4-5% would be what I would go with also. 8-9% in marzen I have no issue getting 1.011-012 which is where I like it.

edit: in retrospect- if following BJCP guidelines for 5A and range of 1.011-1.018, i would have no qualms about using around same % as I do for marzen and still get 1.011-1.012FG. if you did want to go dryer than guidelines, then yes cut it in 1/2 I would say-similar to the pils.
