Great looking Oktoberfest. Here’s mine. Maybe not better than last year’s, but it drinks pretty good.

You know what?  That looks better than any of the Advent Calendar beers you have posted over at THE BIERGARTEN.  Truly... looks delicious.

Tough to get a good shot of this beaut but it’s my Oktoberfest marzen. Couldn’t be happier. Most my beers are German inspired but this one tastes pretty authentic. Maybe the best looking beer Ive ever made

American pale ale, based on the “Capt’n Crompton’s Pale Ale” recipe from Epic Brewing, as relayed in the Craft Beer for the Home Brewer book. I dry hopped with an ounce of this year's crop of Cascade, from my dad's hop stand in South Dakota. The hops were only two weeks past harvest when I used them! It took a few weeks in the keg for everything to come together, but right now it's drinking beautifully.

Recipe and such are on my blog: https://andybrews.com/2022/10/15/lycorhinus-pale-ale/

Thank you for indulging me with this post as it’s more about the homebrewing experience than it is a pic, which clearly isn’t great. I have surgery coming later this week and have been pulling beers, commercial and homebrew, out of my stash to drink this week.

The pic is of a nondescript brown ale of roughly 5.5% abv that I aged on bourbon soaked oak chips prior to bottling. I had one bottle left, remembered it being good but not great. This beer is exceptional, it’s what we in this hobby yearn for, perfection. Impeccably clean, rich, complex, and drinkable. I’ve had few such beers , I call them transcendent. It is a perfect beer, a 50 pointer, not defined by a romanticized place but by the liquid. A perfectly aged beer opened at the perfect time, a beer of low alcohol that shouldn’t age so well, but did. It’s filled with notes of chocolate, vanilla, maple, light bourbon, and caramel in a very natural balanced state not pounded in artificially.

Cheers homebrewers!
