Differences in batches of Weyermann Barke Pils
« on: June 27, 2019, 02:06:37 pm »
I just received a 55 lb. bag of Barke Pils and thought it would be interesting to compare the specs against those someone posted on another forum awhile ago.

Production date was 2.15.2019 vs. the 8.13.2018
Malt color is 1.8 °L vs. 1.6 °L
Friability is 84.5% vs. 89.6%
Hartong Index is 37.1% vs. 37.7%
Total protein is 10.7% vs 10%
Soluble nitrogen is 689 mg/100g vs. 659 mg/100g
Kolbach index is 40.2% vs. 41.2%
Extract fine grind is 78.6° vs. 78.9°
Hartong Index is 37.1° vs. 37.7°
Moisture content for both batches was 4.5°

Here are the analysis sheets (mine is the second):

The variation in total protein is in the hands of Ma Nature, but the consistency in everything within their control is just what I'd expect from Weyermann.

I have a spreadsheet with a few thousand MA sheets from Weyermann. Even across a span of 2-3 years, their tolerances, whether intentional or not, are extraordinary.
