Just a funny thought, and it may already have been done (I do not read the Tech Talk E-mails as they confuse my feeble mind too easily :P )

Has anyone put together a brief "How to make the Forum work like Tech Talk"  message onto Tech Talk with some of the tips like these?  It may make the transition easier, and reduce the stress.

FWIW, I had sworn off Forums, until I started looking at this site.  It is very well done, and easy to use.

Thanks for the compliment!

Gary and members of the GC have posted on TT about how to make the forum a more "TT like" experience.

As it turns out, Denny's suggestion to use the "Unread" link at the top of the page was exactly what I was looking for.  I bet a lot of the people who are having problems with the TT transition would have an easier time making the jump if they could have that as their starting page.  In some ways, it is like seeing TT happen in real time.  I'm sold.

Svejk, welcome to the forum.  I hope you will be a Good Soldier!
Edit: I see the Good Soldier is the avatar now.
(If anyone is confused by the Good Soldier reference, use Google).

Also, FWIW, the unread is on the top right for me and not the top left, in case you are having problems finding it.

Thanks for pointing that out!  I don't care for the default yellow/orange/brown color scheme, so I changed my skin.  That also changes where things are, but I forget not everyone is set up like me.

How do you do that?

Go into your profile and under "Modify Profile" choose "Look and Layout Settings".  The first thing on the list there is "Current Theme".  Click on (change) and you'll get a list of different themes you can use.

I don't have a "current theme" option. It starts out with time format and time offset, then it's just a bunch of clicky boxes. Weird....

That is weird.  I can't imagine it's just because I'm an admin....

It's not there for me either.  Must be an admin thing.

Yup. Me too. No themes. But I'd swear I saw it somewhere- but maybe on another forum. Not inclined to change the current one since it's pretty cool anyway.
