$50 To Spend - What Equipment Would You Get?
« on: October 02, 2019, 08:20:12 pm »
Assuming you already have the equipment to brew good beer, what extra piece(s) would you add to your setup for $50 or less?

Without knowing what you have and don't have, you're asking a question that would require a crystal ball to answer. What do you think you're lacking?

Save your $$$ and put it toward the next thing you really need, and then use the $50 for the upgraded model.

Put it toward a good brewing book or two.

A couple suggestions.  The first is something I'll be doing on my next trip to the LHBS.  Stuff that is used once or needs to be regularly replaced.  Things like hose (for a syphon or whatever), nylon mesh bags, sanitizer, etc.  Get some backup stock of things so it's there when you need it.

The second is more for me personally because I don't know your setup.  Storage.  For a long time I've kept stoppers, airlocks, bags, thermometers, and other things in one big drawer.  I've been slowly been rearranging how I have things stored so everything is separated and easier to find.

The practical part of me agrees with joe...I'd buy something that is used all the time.  Cleaner and sanitizer would be at the top of my list.

However, I'd more likely spend the money on a few choice beers that I have always wanted to try but have been too cheap to buy.   Most likely in a style that matches up nicely with my next few brew sessions. This way, I can easily justify the purchase as a necessary appraisal, for scientific purposes.

  • Great beer. Less work. More fun.

If I've already got all the equipment needed to brew good beer I'd spend the $50 on ingredients to brew more good beer.
