Mark messages as read?
« on: November 21, 2019, 08:33:09 am »
Hello, is there a way to remove the alert/notification badge on my messages without deleting the messages? All I see is the remove button, but I'd just like to mark them as read so they stay but I don't have the badge anymore.

Hmmm, I have one, but I use a different interface than anyone else.  Lemme see what I can do.  Don't hold yer breath!

If you are viewing the forum on a desktop/laptop then there is no elegant way to mark messages read... at least not like we use to have until a recent overhaul of the forum.

The explanation has something to do with the mobile interface and to make that work better they made it more aggravating to PC users. Instead of a simple click on "Mark All Messages Read", we now have to 1) click your user name at the top of the page. 2) on the drop down menu select "Recent Unread Topics" 3) Now you will see "Mark All Messages Read". You can click that and get done in three steps what it use to take us only one.

3) Now you will see "Mark All Messages Read".

That marks forum topics as read though, not private messages.

(FWIW, you can replace steps 1-2 by clicking the "Unread" link in the top-left.)

My bad. I interpreted "messages" as forum posts. Also, there is no "unread" link in the top left on the main menu. Not on the web version of the forum any way.

Strange, must be a browser thing.

I know it's been awhile, but that is for unread forum topics. I'm referring to the private message in the top right. For Sean it looks like that's 198 for you.
