Isle of Man
« on: April 30, 2020, 09:08:52 pm »
I met my wife in Omaha, NE but she was originally from a small island in the UK called the Isle of Man. If anyone is a motorcycle racing fan they'll probably be more familiar with it due to the TT races. Anyway, one of my favorite things about homebrewing/ craft brewing/ or beer in general is trying new beers/ breweries from different regions! When I had the chance to visit her homeland for the first time we were able to get a private tour at the Hooded Ram.... anyone who happens to make it to the island, visit them!

Ooh, don't let her hear you call it part of the UK, they're not! (but they are a Crown Dependency - I guess pre-statehood Hawaii  is perhaps the nearest equivalent in US terms).

IoM is nice enough in its own weird way, but in pure beer terms I wouldn't miss going to Manchester or Burton for it. The Good Beer Guide tickers have good descriptions of what it's like :

Wasn't there an article in recent times either from BYO or Zymurgy that was about the beer there

I'll have to check it out because she would love seeing it. We really enjoyed spending time at the brewery. The owners name escapes me sadly, but they sent us off with some beer glasses and a belly full of samples!

Ha she has definitely told me that before, but UK just seems easier to type I suppose. Good reads! We're going to try and make it back as much as possible for her to see family. We did London last time so I won't shy away from going anywhere I can get a good beer. Loved seeing all the cask ales since that's not something you'll catch frequently in Omaha.

Indeed there was. I read it. Think there were three breweries mentioned in it and two of them are now closed and the other has been sold to Marston's UK.

Someone once told me that making my own beer was a great way to save money. What a load of shyte that was!
