Refractometer Question - Alcohol Adjustment
« on: March 17, 2020, 05:03:17 pm »
So we took a reading as we kegged the Czech Pils today, and it was 1.029. But that was the fermented beer complete with alcohol.

Where is the calculator to find the true final gravity?

I'm finding things online like Brix, Plato, SG...no help.

You'll need your starting gravity as well to make a calculation of the ABV. Having both the starting gravity and the finished gravity, you can use this: https://www.brewersfriend.com/abv-calculator/. I strongly recommend using a hydrometer.

If using a refractometer, try this https://www.brewersfriend.com/refractometer-calculator/. You still need both starting and finishing gravities.

I've used Sean's for many years.  http://seanterrill.com/2012/01/06/refractometer-calculator/
Use it online or download the Excel version.

It works great!

Where the heck are we going?  And what's with this hand basket?

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

What is the wort correction factor, and how do you determine the value?

The wort correction factor is a calibration specific to each instrument. Here are some instructions on how to measure it for your refractometer:

Original Gravity - that would be Newton's
