I for sure believe that the more time I've spent homebrewing the more I feel I can speak about beer with some authority or depth of knowledge. Also, I think that devoting time to learning about beer generally, not just brewing skills and brewing science, has made me a better brewer and more able to appreciate beers and speak to others about them. Several years in at this point as a brewer, I've come to appreciate that there's a lot of information pertaining to beer and brewing that gets taken without questioning and repeated as "fact" when it's untrue, only partially true, or has to be taken in a specific context.
