What About the Canadians
« on: June 03, 2020, 05:51:05 PM »
Has the AHA given any thoughts to the Canadian HomeBrewers that are members?
And by thoughts I mean can the AHA commit to allowing us to pay the $99 in Canadian funds?
Might go a long way in getting more Canadian participation.

Thanks
Brent

I can't answer for the AHA but are you aware there's a Canadian Hombrewers Association?

Yes, I am a member of both associations. The CHA does not have a conference currently.

I wonder if Canadian businesses  would allow those of us who live in the US to pay US prices for goods and services when we visit Canada. More US residents might visit your beautiful country. I think you see where I'm going with this.

Forget I mentioned it if that's your attitude!!

Currently the $99 fee translates to $140 for Canadians

I'm a little bit confused by the question.  You just want a discount?  Or more Canadian events and other things that would welcome them?

I'm just requesting that the AHA accept the Canadian dollar at par so we can make it more affordable to support the conference.

Currency conversion can be a pain.  I know my experience in Canada has always been that retailers are happy to take US $$ and give change in Canadian.  Makes for a big profit on even small purchases for them.

Currencies have differing values and people need to be prepared to deal with the conversion factors.  I don't see people in the EU asking that Euros be accepted as US $$.  Of course, the value is reversed in that case.   :)

I'm not trying to be a jerk, just pointing out that US and CAN $$ are not equal values.  If I'm dealing with a foreign entity I expect to deal in the currency they sell in.

No help on the real issues but I've seen some businesses charge the same price no matter the currency. It was just a matter of who got the better deal. Them or you.

While we're tossing ideas around, I wouldn't mind paying in pesos.

Lets go with the Italian Lira.  Although it might be worth more as collectors items than it was when it was used.

Agreed, and this would be a great opportunity for the AHA to do just that for all their Canadian brewing friends.

I would certainly buy some Canadian dollars to pay my fee if that happened. It's a shame that I couldn't pay in US dollars instead of UK pounds when I've bought products from England.
