2011 Nugget Hops
« on: August 17, 2020, 04:00:31 pm »
A few years ago, I got a decent sized sealed bags of 2011 Nugget hops.  I've kept them frozen and they still seem intact.   Going on 9 years now, so feeling a little shifty-eyed about using them in a brew.  What are the thoughts?

You could always try them in a small batch a see how they come out.

I would at least do that, but I like to gamble ;)

You could make some hop tea to test the flavor.

Open them up and give a sniff: hoppy is okay, cheesy is not.

Up to about six months ago I had some 2011 Belma hanging out in the freezer. The mylar bag was open and stored in a ziploc freezer bag. I had no problem using them even for bittering. Those nuggets are probably ok although they might not be the best tasting hops. Give them a smell. I'm sure they will smell as you expect.
