I've got a question for those of you with the sweet collar-modified chest freezers.  How much did the project cost you start to finish? I'm talking about the whole 9 yards - 4-5 kegs, freezer, temp controller, faucets, shanks, manifolds, freezer modification etc.  I've been resisting the urge to build a kegging setup, but I don't know if I can much longer.  I like the way those look.  As I plan for it, having a dollar goal for the project would be helpful.  Thanks!

I did the keggerator, but here's a "chainsaw math" estimate.....

Freezer used off Craigslist: $200
Temp regulator                   $100
Cornies, $40 each * 5         $200
Lumber/hardware misc       $100
CO2 + regulator                 $150
Pressure side manifolds
connectors and hoses        $100
Liquid side connectors
and hoses                         $50
Taps and shanks (do NOT
skimp here.......)               $300

So, let's say ttl                 $1200

Now, if you get the freezer for free from aunt Sally, and anything else on sale........ But this is probably a good base line.

I paid $50 for my fridge, have three Cornies and taps (so far) a spare CO2 bottle, and a dual regulator and I'm at about $750

I'm not sure how this works in your neighborhood, but Yahoo has a section called "free cycle". You will need to create a Yahoo e-mail account if you don't have one but I just picked up two great refrigerators for FREE (Lagering fridge, and kegerator). Also, see if you can barter with other brewers someone is always looking to trade something.

Where is this section in Yahoo?  Sounds like a great opportunity to gear up.

My six-banger.  I'm probably ~$1500 in on this one with 10 kegs. Its a 15.4 cu ft with a 2"x8" collar.

I am in the middle of my build:
Temp controller: $75
7 cf freezer: $100 on craigslist
Keggorator setup: $50 on craigslist (20# co2 tank, regulator, sanke coupler, cheapo tap faucet.
New hoses, fittings for keggorator (with 3 keg co2 splitter): $100 from LHBS
New 5 gal keg: $40 LHBS (I have since found a local supplier for $35 on craigslist, more to come)
New 5 gallon keg full from Brekenridge brewery ($36 with AHA discount) plus $50 for deposit on their keg.
Wood: found a wooden bed frame in alley for intended use: $0

I will have to spend a little on insulation and weatherstripping, but not likely more than $20 more....so for about $450-$500
You wouldn't believe the things I've seen...

An update on my kegerator build. Added a second faucet, a secondary bank, and some other things.

I have a third faucet and keg setup ordered and will add a 4th on payday at the end of the month.
It is slowly coming together.  :)
