I brew with my wife

I brew to get away from my wife. Just kidding...kind of.

Isn't there a George Thorogood song about that?

I brew alone.
Yeah, all by myself.
You know when I brew alone
I prefer to be by myself.

Some people drink to escape from their wife.

Have done both, but generally brew with my cousin.  We got into the hobby together, and he was able to get a bunch of equipment from his neighbor who now happens to own a brewery, so doesn't home brew anymore. So, since he keeps the equipment as his house, we brew over there. As far as solo, I've only ever done extract batches by myself, since I don't have the equipment to do all grain.

It's just a joke. In poor taste perhaps, but still just a joke.

solo, though i don't discount brewing with someone.

the experiences i've had are that 90% of people who respond positively to "brewing beer" think it is a time to get drunk and chat and party. uhh its not. i have maybe had one or two beers during all the time ive brewed ever. but a lot of tea and coffee.

Solo because brewing beer just isn't the right time to get one rounded in the neck.

Mostly homebrewing isn't a large enough task for more than one person and it's like watching govt. workers where one guy is doing the work and the rest are leaning on the shovel/truck, etc...

yeah that is really true.

however, in the right setting it could be a time/effort saver if 3 or 4 neighbours worked together to make a 20-25 gallon setup

I do most of the time solo, my first beer was awesome to do with some friends, I needed help back then, but now I only do with friends if they want to know a little about the process and get into homebrewing

This past Saturday night was a reminder of why I prefer to go at a brew session solo. It's been years since I had a "brew night", I had 2 friends over, one used to brew but just can't find the time right now and another who just loves craft beer and knows a lot about my own brewing. We mashed in, ordered a pizza, shared some pours, not a bad night at all but I was brewing an Imperial Stout and then batch sparging for the 2nd runnings to get me a Porter-ish beer so it was kind of busy to knock out two batches, although they were smaller. I just find it difficult to fully enjoy either end...the brewing or the relaxing, especially while drinking. But, I had a good night with company, it made for a long brew night. We made some memories, shared some laughs. Hope the beer turns out well but I prefer to keep brewing separate from company and/or drinking.

I've attended a few group brewing events to be sociable, but I prefer to brew solo, early in the day, with coffee and later herbal tea as the day progresses.
