App not available
« on: November 02, 2020, 02:39:09 pm »
The latest edition of Zymurgy on my iPhone would not load so I deleted the app with the intention of reinstalling it to see if that would fix it. But now I cannot find the Zymurgy app at all at the App Store. When I use a link to the Zymurgy Magazine app I get a message that the app is not available in my country. What gives? I checked my Apple ID settings and the country is correctly set.

Has anyone else run into this not available in your country issue when trying to link to the Zymurgy app?

I'm pretty sure the most recent Zymurgy magazine had an announcement that the app had been discontinued and is no longer available for download from the app stores.  It indicated the content was available in PDF on the site.

Hey there-

Our Walsworth platform that folks have used for accessing digital issues on their computer has undergone updates to make it a mobile-friendly e-reader. While the interface is slightly different than the Zymurgy app, you still have access to all the same issues. A bonus of this platform is you will also have the option for a plain-text reader which is a great new feature if you're not a fan of the pinching and zooming of the PDF version.

Also, as Paul mentioned, you will have the option to download PDFs of any issues so you can access them when you don't have internet access!

To access this e-reader for the current issue (Nov/Dec 2020), click on the green "read online" button on this page. Once in the e-reader, you will have access to the "archive" which has all the issues through 2000. [Note: we are still in the process of getting all issues through 2000 on this page. This should be completed by the end of November, but rest assured you still have access to all issues through 2000 via the e-reader archive]

Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any issues or questions! info@brewersassociation.org

Cheers,
Duncan

Hey Kevin- It is a browser-based platform, so you do have to use your mobile browser to access it. What I do is bookmark this archive page on my phone's home screen and it launches my browser straight there.

Hey dirtyal-

The mobile iOS/Android app has been discontinued, but you still have mobile access to all the same digital issues via our e-Reader which has been recently optimized for use on mobile devices.

This post on HomebrewersAssociation.org has more information.

I also really enjoyed the iOS App.  Especially on the iPad. The search feature worked excellent. The issues where very easy to download.  Image quality was perfect. Didn’t have any complaints. At least we can still download a pdf copy. I don’t like reading magazines from within a browser or worse yet what BYO did to their digital magazines. If the AHA moved to the BYO format that would be awful.

Open the issue you want to download on the e-reader. Move your mouse around towards the top of the reader screen and it will make the top menu bar appear. All the way to the right on the menu bar is a download icon that says "PDF" under it. Click that sucker.

Perfect case of making something great into something worse.  Yes, the same content can be accessed.  Yes, issues can be downloaded as pdf.  While I certainly would not call the new processes difficult, it is clearly not as streamlined as it had been with the Zymurgy app.  This change is a big step backwards.

Sign of the times. I imagine it was a cost cutting measure.
