One can get a Raspberry PI Zero W for $10.00 from Adafruit. It is not an off-the-shelf solution, but it is low cost for the computer science/computer engineering-oriented brewer. I am not an Arduino fan, but I respect what the Arduino maker community has done. It appears the most of the software is written in Python, which is pretty darn easy to learn as far as programming languages go and code does not need to go through a compile and link process before being executable.
