Steam Hops
« on: September 29, 2021, 03:53:35 pm »
There’s another thread about frozen hops, we’ve seen Cryo hops, hops shots, etc. Now: Steam hops.

I just saw these and thought I’d share. Basically they’ve done the isomerization for you at various times. Theoretically no boil required: mash, vorlauf, add the hops package corresponding to the X min you need (60, 30, 20 or 10 min), ferment, and package.

I almost bought some of these today but passed. There was an article I saw about them, I'll try to find it.

Not sure I'd go "no boil" but here is the article

I beta tested those a couple years ago.  Not impressed.

Or to save even more time, go the whole pre-made wort approach:

Not for me - I enjoy the hobby, including the process!  But if it is the only way to participate, then, I guess, why not?

Any sensory notes you care to pass on just for curiosities sake? Even if it is just a vague recollection

Vague recollection indeed.  I seem to recall they were just weak, both in bittering and flavor, and had a kinda weird vegetal quality to them.  But one reason they weren't released back then was because they didn't feel they were right, so maybe now they've solved those problems.

To save even more time, one could just go to the grocery store and buy pre-made beer. Skip the wort thing entirely :P
