Shandy?
« on: October 02, 2021, 05:22:15 am »
My good friend and brewing partner's wife wants a Grapefruit Shandy.
Research shows that you are better off just brewing a beer you like, and then pouring in your favorite juice just prior to drinking it.
Any thoughts on this? Is there a way to brew a fruit beer? Specifically a grapefruit beer?

No interest to me, but the wives are interested. Happy wife, happy life.

I recently read an article about shandy’s that said the best thing to do is rather than add lemonade or in this case grapefruit juice is to add carbonated lemon or grapefruit soda.

This is an interesting twist. I did read that Shandy's originated in England back in the 1800's. And the best thing is just pour in the fruit juice as you pour the beer. That way you get the ratio you want.

Did the article say to mix this with the beer in the glass?

Not for me, but the ladies want this.

As I was taught by British friends, that's the way shady is supposed to be.  It's a mix of beer and lemonade....which is lemon lime soda, a la 7 Up. And it is mixed in the glass.

This is a popular Grapefruit Radner:

Have her try it and you can easily brew the base beer and add the grapefruit soda.

Thanks! We bought some Shiner Ruby-Redbird, made with Texas Grapefruit. Not bad, surprisingly!
