Charlotte is a large city and the places worth visiting have some distances between them and it depends upon what you are after. I'd suggest you map out the addresses, some are new and may not appear with correct addresses on some of the mapping sites.

Here's a short list of bars/restaurants:
The Flying Saucer - a wall of beer and so so food - http://www.beerknurd.com/
Mac's Speed Shop - multiple locations, best is Steele Creek - well chosen beer and great BBQ - http://www.macspeedshop.com/
Duckworth's Grill and Taphouse - 60 or so great beers on draft, never a loser - http://duckworthsgrillandtaphouse.com/
Taco Mac - I've not been, in a trendy area with 100+ drafts, but I've been told craft is only a small percentage - http://www.tacomac.com/
The Liberty - Gastropub, have not checked it out yet, hear good things - http://www.thelibertycharlotte.com/
Revolution Pizza & Ale House - excellent food and a great draft list - http://www.revolutionpizza.com/
-There are also Mellow Mushroom and Brixx locations, but to be honest I've not found their selections to be worth my time if on a beer quest.http://www.mellowmushroom.com/ http://www.brixxpizza.com/ (FWIW - mellow was at one time in Charlotte and then the owner lost his franchise so they are just now coming back and I have not heard anything about their new places good or bad)
If you want a dive, you might want to try the Moosehead Grill, the food is good and inexpensive and they generally have at least 10 good drafts. http://charlotte.citysearch.com/profile/6279389/charlotte_nc/moosehead_grill.html

Brewpub - only one in Charlotte proper
Rock Bottom - part of Gordon Biersch chain, brewer is skilled and always has a fine beverage http://www.rockbottomsouth.com/
Hops Matthews - I've not been to this location, most of the chain is defunct, but I hear this brewer's pales and IPA's are worth the trek - http://www.hopsonline.com/home/openmenu.asp

Breweries
Olde Mecklenburg Brewery - nice taphouse, authentic German beers - http://www.oldemeckbrew.com/
Four Friends Brewery - just started distributing, not sure their tap room is complete, check them on FaceBook for more complete information, their website isn't timely - http://www.fourfriendsbrewing.com/

Beer Stores
Brawley's Beverage - tell Mike Brawley I sent you (Mike Dixon) and also that you are from out of town. He will probably pull out some goodies. If you go nowhere else, go here - http://www.brawleysbeverage.com/
Total Wine has good beer selections at all their locations, but instead purchase most from Brawley's - http://www.totalwine.com/
Common Market - has a small selection, but a good one the last time I went in - http://www.commonmarketisgood.com/

Any questions, just ask...

The Cheesecake Factory at Southpark Mall. A little high end but great food and the best cheesecake ever for dessert.

Sweet Caroline where the Sun rises over the deep blue sea and sets somewhere beyond Tennessee

You're kidding right? It's a chain and last time I checked the beer list didn't have anything to offer.

If he want's higher end chain then there is no better than Brio Tuscan Grille at South Park. The food is always excellent, the wine list is very good, but beer could use some assistance. For that matter, they could not do much better than Pewter Rose if in it for food. Not a chain, excellent food... http://pewterrose.com/

Thanks for the list.  I lived in Charlotte ages ago and am glad to see that there are so many new beer places to go.  I'll definately go do Brawley's.
