weak beer

fermented my beer for 2 weeks, no real beer taste or smell, i halfed a 5al recipe to make a small 21/2 gal batch, what could have caused this.

You would probably have to post the recipe and your process.  Be as detailed as you can be.

What was the original gravity and what was the final gravity?

Yes, it is impossible to answer your questions without some idea of your recipe or process. Extract? All grain? Partial Mash? Kit? what yeast did you use? Fermentation temperature? what beer style?
