Replacement for cork cages?
« on: June 07, 2022, 08:34:39 am »
Hi everyone,

I ran out of bottles on Sunday when packaging my Belgian Tripel. Was able to use wine bottles with corks I had on hand, but I do not have cages. Anyone have a temp suggestion until I get cages that safely secure the corks? #SafetyFirst.

Can we assume you used champagne bottles and are bottle conditioning?   If so you have time to get the wire cages before carbonation is great enough to push out the corks.  If you're worried, put them in the fridge until then.

I hope you used champagne and not wine bottles. They can be dangerous under pressure.

>Yes forgive me for stating wine when meant champagne and yes primed with sugar for bottle conditioning. Yes I've got a few days until it starts fermenting. Was looking for a quick fix w/out having to refridgerate as I want the bottles to carbonate.
