Blichmann BoilerMaker G2 Kettle
« on: May 07, 2022, 02:22:33 pm »
I am currently planning to upsize to a 20 gallon brew kettle. Wanting to buy American made, I have a question about the Blichmann G2 brewing kettle. My 3 current kettles, 2 ten gallon and 1 five gallon kettles all have tri-ply bottoms. The G2 does not. Has anyone had issues with the G2 kettle single ply bottom? Or suggestions for another USA made 20 gallon kettle?

I have a 10 gallon G2. Not sure what kind of problem there would be with the single ply bottom but I never had any type of issues. I pair this up with their propane burner (pre Hellfire)

I have heard that a single ply bottom can warp out of shape where it is not steady due to direct heat.

Maybe this should be a question to Blichmann?

  • Great beer. Less work. More fun.

I have had a G2 15 gallon boil kettle for about 5 years with zero problems.

I use multiple-ply kettles on my electric induction burner; I'm guessing that a single ply may not work with it.  Otherwise, I'm not sure why it would matter much.

I know that a 3 ply bottom is supposed to help capture heat but I find that a skirt around the burner works much better.  Aside from that, the heavy bottom just takes longer to heat up and cool down and makes the kettle harder to move.

Hot spots scorching wort has been proven to be a myth unless you have DME caked on the bottom.

Have been using Blichmann kettles for around 10 years. Zero issues.
