Are re-pitch and fermaid basically the same thing?
« on: June 28, 2022, 06:19:13 pm »
I read somewhere that Fermaid is made up of "dead yeast cells" and provide nutrients for the "live" yeast cells. If this is true, wouldn't my re-pitch yeast have plenty of nutrients in it making the addition of Fermaid pointless? I don't do anything other than swirl my bucket and pour the dregs into a small mason jar that I've StarSan'd inside and out, then into the fridge it goes.

Fermaid K is a complex formula that provides DAP, free amino acids, yeast hulls, unsaturated fatty acids, sterols; and micronutrients such as magnesium sulfate, thiamin, folic acid, biotin, calcium pantothenate, and other vitamins and minerals.

Fermaid O™ is a blend of highly specific inactivated yeast fractions that are rich in assimilable amino acids (organic nitrogen). It's amino acid profile is highly consistent.

Not quite as simple as you think.
