A New Brew Day Achievement...
« on: August 20, 2022, 01:50:30 pm »
No photos (because...well, I had to act fast...), but I just had a new brew day achievement. I was finishing up the mash for a German pils in my Foundry, with everything set up just outside the garage. I went inside the house briefly to grab some stuff, and when I looked out the window there was a decent-sized black bear nosing up to my brew gear.

I opened the door, yelled at it to get out of there, and off it went! No damage to the beer (or the bear). I think this batch shall be called "Black Bear Pils."

This is, to date, my most unusual brew day occurrence...

Yeah, I can see why it would be! Glad all it took was yelling.

Me too! "Our" bears tend to take off when you give a good shout, which is the best possible outcome for everyone concerned. The folks in our neighborhood are pretty fastidious about trash and food items outside (bear-resistant trash cans, etc.), so I'm hopeful we can keep the status quo for the foreseeable future.

Throw some Carafa in it and call it Old Black Beer.

That's absolutely crazy! Glad no one was hurt, including the Foundry!
