Executive Director Presentations and Events
« on: February 06, 2023, 03:51:49 pm »
Hello everyone,

BrewBama (Dwain) recently suggested a fantastic idea to share an overview on the Forum of my homebrew adventures and presentations on behalf of the American Homebrewers Association. So with that, here are a few fun things to share, and I'll update this thread as the year goes on.

Quick notes:

So far in January 2023, I've judged at the Big Beers Belgians and Barleywines AHA BJCP Sanctioned competition; met with the American Mead Makers Association Home Governing Committee, numerous suppliers and homebrew related community leaders; presented to the 5-Star Homebrew Club Webinar Program; participated in the January Zymurgy Live with Charlie Papazian and Crispy Frey; attended Cider Con in Chicago; brewed with CHAOS Homebrew Club in Chicago; toured Gnome Brewing and 2022 Homebrew Shop of the Year winner; and tonight I present virtually to Cap & Hare Homebrew Club.

Cheers, and may our paths cross sometime in 2023, in-person or virtually.

Julia

Hello everyone,

Since the February post I can share the following activities (not the full glass but a good taste :D).

Attended and judged in SNAFU homebrew club's Winter Fest in Vegas, Nevada, plus homebrewed a collaboration beer with Kim and Adam (club officers) in reward for finding one of my hose clamp rings that was geocached in Pittsburgh, PA. Hosted the March Zymurgy Live with Stan Hieronymus on New Zealand Hops (watch the replay exclusive to AHA members here: https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/presentations/zymurgy-live/), presented on homebrewing at Lady Justice Brewery in Aurora, Colorado. Judged virtually and in-person (best of show) for Sweetheart's Revenge hosted by WeizGuys homebrew club in Loveland, Colorado. Hosted and presented in Boulder, Colorado at our AHA Media Demo Day to journalists featuring a how-to brew demo of the AHA 2023 Big Brew recipe (by Chris Frey) called Nearly Nirvana Pale Ale. Presented to the following homebrew clubs: White Street Brewers, Carolina BrewMasters, Butler County Brewins Society and Olde Town Mash Paddler's. Watched the March Zymurgy Live (exclusive to AHA members) with Dr. Charlie Bamforth and Doug Piper. Judge 1st Round National Homebrew Competition in Longmont, Colorado and separately in Tampa, Florida. Also, during the past two months, I visited the following homebrew shops: Vegas Homebrew and separately Let's Brew Homebrew and Winemaking Supplies in Vegas; Quirky Homebrew Supply in Northglenn, Colorado; Boulder Fermentation Supply in Boulder, CO; Bald Brewer Homebrewing in Longmont, CO AND more breweries than I can count.

Like I said, that's not the full glass but is a large sip.

Thank you to all who are American Homebrewers Association Members, and a reminder on a few things:

Hello, hello, homebrewing friends and AHA members on the forum,

It's been a busy and active time connecting with homebrewers since April, and our hope is that the American Homebrewers Association is in your orbit and continues to help your homebrewing. In the last few months, I was invited and excited to present to Virginia Peninsula Homebrewers, Arizona Society of Homebrewers, Bootleggers Homebrew Club, Colorado Brewers Guild, Brew Brothers of Pike’s Peak, and MORE.

Fielding multiple media interviews is a joy, cause yeah…I get to talk about beer and homebrewing, including being a source and resource for this extensive post from the Food Network and Tara Nurin How to Homebrew Beer for Beginners. https://www.foodnetwork.com/how-to/packages/food-network-essentials/how-to-brew-beer-beginners-guide

In April, I attended the Craft Brewers Conference in Nashville, TN, and reminded craft brewers about the value of AHA membership/resources and homebrewing to what they do, their innovation, furthering education and more.

Onto May, where I was fortunate to brew a collaboration brew with QUAFF member Yogi Grandpa (Mike Page). Mike found one of my geocached hose clamp rings and as a reward we brewed together at his home brewery in San Diego. What a blast of a day that was.

Big Brew 2023. The AHA annually hosts this global event inspired when May 7 was announced before Congress as National Homebrew Day in 1988. In honor of the day, I attended, presented and exhibited at the Southern California Homebrewers Festival in Temecula, CA (May 4-6) where I served my homebrew using the 2023 Nearly Nirvana Pale Ale Big Brew recipe https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/homebrew-recipe/nearly-nirvana-pale-ale/ from Crispy Frey and also brewed a demonstration brew (1-gallon all grain) of the same recipe during the festival.

And…speaking of Big Brew several of us judged the club-only competition organized by Blake Ernst of Weizguys Homebrew Club. In this first-time event, Blake inspired 13 clubs to brew the Big Brew recipe.

In July, I attended the Colorado Society of Association Executives Conference. We also conducted a new retail supply shop survey to compile trends on what is happening at homebrew retail. Remember to support your local homebrew shops.

We announced a new Homebrew Holiday called Home Fermentation Day to happen on the first Saturday of August. Check out the details here. https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/aha-events/home-fermentation-day/

Additionally, our team of staff and volunteer leaders (so many to thank) expertly executed Homebrew Con in San Diego, CA, delivering 30+ sessions (AHA members can access the recordings), three days of fermentation vacation, AND the final round of the National Homebrew Competition. The 2023 competition received 4,335 entries from 1,708 homebrewers across 50 states, Washington, D.C., and 13 countries. In total, 164,105 entries have been evaluated since the inaugural AHA National Homebrew Competition in 1979 in Boulder, Colo.

On top of this, day in and day out our team serviced our 36K+ members and supported the following ongoing programs, including goverment affiars inquires for homebrewers who want to advance homebrewing in their states, the new Zymurgy Live https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/presentations/zymurgy-live/ that you can also rewatch, AHA Supply Shop Directory, Homebrew Club Directory, AHA/BJCP Sanctioned Homebrew Competitions, AHA Homebrew Holidays, Recipe Submissions, AHA National Recognition Awards, AHA Club Insurance Program, Referral Program, Zymurgy Magazine, HomebrewersAssociation.org, Member Deals, 1 month/1-year/3-year and Lifetime memberships, membership inquires and lots more.

A reminder to follow me on social media:

@immaculatefermentation on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/immaculatefermentation/

Lastly, if I can present to your club or attend a larger in-person event, here is our speaker request form for virtual and in-person requests that your Governing Committee and I consider. https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/contact-us/virtual-in-person-speaking-engagement-request/

Happy homebrewing, and please remember to log into your AHA account to get access to all the AHA online member benefits as well as the e-version of our ever-incredible Zymurgy Magazine. https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/
