Equipment Cleaning Agents
« on: February 16, 2023, 03:27:40 pm »
I have always used One Step for my equipment cleaning needs. Looking to try another cleaner.
With that said, what do you use?

PBW.  I've tried using Oxyclean in the past, but I've never had the same results as PBW.

My $0.02

Oxyclean<PBW<Craft Meister Alkaline

Those work on organic material.

For beer stone and mineral buildup you need an acid.

Barkeeper's Friend or a Beer Stone remover.

PBW - I’ve tried others with limited success.  For what it’s worth, Amazon sells an 8 pound container for $56.

Craftmeister Alkaline Wash - it works at any temperature.  Beer Stone Remover or Dairy Acid for oxalate buildup.

The fermenter is the only item that has caked-on crud. I rinse it with hot water and scrub off anything left with the heal of my hand or a washcloth. It's perfectly clean as far as I can see. Then I fill it with a generic OxiClean solution and soak it overnight, with tubing and other items in it. The combination of mechanical cleaning and OxiClean seems to work really well.

I assume your fermenter is not stainless:

This is the best I've found. I've been through Oxiclean and PBW and ended up with ABW. You can get cheaper cleaners but you  can't get a better one.

Oxiclean needs warm water to work well and doesnt work as quickly as PBW, but I use oxiclean for the price. It does the job

Craft Meister Oxygen Brewery Wash - 5 lb

Bar Keepers friend soft cleaner

Cheers

Or Alkaline brewery wash, which is even better.

I forget why I settled with the oxygen brewer wash.
What I do remember is researching extensively and couldn't decide between the two.
I emailed national chemicals/craftmeister about the two regarding what I was cleaning/soaking,
speidel fermenter, tubing.
They didn't pick one with ramblings, and said both would work well.

Cheers
