What have you been doing in the brewery lately?

Like the old saying "A man with two clocks never knows what time it is", …

I was thinking the same thing. But when I saw the Chef’s Alarm and Thermopop within .5°F of each other and my controller sensor disagreeing by ~6°F I had to go with the majority. If I think I am mashing at 152° but it’s actually 158° I figured it could be the AA culprit. Time will tell.

In addition to the two thermometers, I also used my Sous Vide. It was 1°F different at 152°F which is probably within tolerance.

All my calibration effort seems to have worked. My IPA has slowed down considerably so I took a sample. It is spot on my calculated FG.

Incidentally, this further validates that TILT can’t be trusted for FG. I measured with a finish hydrometer vs using the TILT number.  I trust the hydrometer.

I am a happy brewer. Cheers

It is satisfying when everything makes sense and comes to a tidy resolution. It is even more satisfying when it also results in good beer!

honestly nothing new other than brewing beers.

i feel like i really, really have things down now. i am consistently getting OGs and FGs I want. Flavours, minimizing loss. not getting off flavours.

I want to just relax and do safe recipes. I'm also drinking less now, so I think it's going to go slower

Yesterday I boxed up some competition entries and dropped them off at the FedEx pickup point.  They’re heading to Vegas.

Today I am doing cellar tasks. I want to add Cocoa Nibs to a Brown Ale, keg an IPA, cold crash and begin conditioning/carbonating it.

I've been hunting down and cleaning off some dusty 1-gallon jugs and airlocks. I haven't made mead in years, but I got an itch recently and I need to scratch it. I also got a bunch of limes at a decent price from my last trip to Aldi's. I need to scrub, zest, and juice them for a batch of limecello.

you may already be aware or have an opinion on coca nibs in beer, but imho and from my very limited experience i wish i had toasted mine, and heavily before i used them. they tasted hazelnutty, but not chocolatey to me. my 2 cents, you may already know more.

I’ve never toasted them. I’ll give that a try next go ‘round. Thx for the tip.

Picked up some local honey and a gal jug. I’m going to try my hand at mead making.

Use the TOSNA calculator ... the nutrient additions really do make a difference in quickly it'll be drinkable.

+1

My results: NUTRIENT ADDITION SCHEDULE

Add each nutrient addition at 24, 48 & 72-hours after yeast pitch.

The fourth nutrient addition is added at the 1/3 sugar break listed above, or Day 7. Whichever comes first.

Remember to degas first, then add nutrition. It avoids a volcano.
Are you making a traditional mead?

+1. I’ve read that warning.

I am making a traditional mead for the first run.

I want to do a Cyser next go ‘round.
