My bet is that the last one up will be the one that's got both the wife and mistress waiting topside

this happened to a guy on my submarine.  returned from sea, both standing on the pier.  we escorted one in to the wardroom while the guy ran topside through the engine room hatch.  he told the one on the pier he had duty that night and would call her the next day.  then ran below decks to explain the same thing to the girl in the wardroom.  they never met and did not see him at the same time. ;)

Looks like #21 to be rescued is "da man".

Worked 5 years @ underground mining. What is striking to me is the fact that
this was a successful endeavor. Often times in the past you know these kinds of things
did not turn out favorably.  Cheers to them hoist, glug, glug, glug..... ;)

They're bringing out the last miner! Woohoo! Go Chile!

Cheers to them...and the rescue effort, which was done  in nearly half the predicted time frame.
Quite an effort, and I'm glad it had a happy ending.  Like 1vertical said, these things don't usually have a good outcome.

Yay!  ;D
That's really good news, glad to have a nice story in the news instead of the usual who-killed-who stories.  :-\

Great news!

I actually watched them pull the last miner out last night...very emotional moment.

Some of the best stuff on TV last night.  As long as you muted the stupid commentators.

No...it was the CNN and Foxnews anchors...too much makeup and too much talking out their asses.  I enjoyed watching the Chilean people getting all excited about the rescue, hugging each other, and singing their national anthem.  And having the President and First Lady there, and looking like they really wanted to be there was something else too.

Funniest moment of the night was when the translator translated the guy laughing.  Apparently "Ha Ha Ha" in Spanish is "Ha Ha Ha" in English.

Is it just me or was President Pinera there for every miner being pulled from the ground? I swear every time I saw one of them coming up he was there to greet them.

Made me think two things:

1) Damn that's bad ass and the right thing to have done.
2) I think the political landscape in this country has become such over the past 20 years that any President, regardless of party, would be given the business by the opposition if they weren't there for the event ("doesn't he care! look how heartless he is") or if he was ("doesn't he have the job of running the country? He can't be wasting time out there like this!")

Bah, regardless, I can't believe how smoothly this went. Also, things like this reinforce the need to invest money in things like NASA because they often serve as good will ambassadors well beyond the whole space thing. (which the nerd in me thinks is bad ass anyways.)

I thought his smile looked a little forced from time to time, which was to be expected. LOL But was astounded with the verve they displayed singing their anthem.

The first rescue guy who was last out, has "large attachments".

(That is a term used by David Hobbs when talking of the courage shown by certain F1 drivers during races.)

I was hearing on a news outlet that one of the miners has been doing this job for 3 decades & has been trapped underground on at least 3 occasions...
Wouldn't you start looking for different work?
Hell...I'd consider just about any other option, after the first cave-in.
