Also, the header of TT usually had an AHA or industry-related post by Charlie P.,  Gary Glass or some other folks.  If there are announcements like that on this forums, I think I lose them in the RSS feed.

Is that anything like this subcategory?

Wow, I completely missed those.  I think the subcategory needs to be broken out a bit.  It has AHA announcements, FAQs and the rules lumped together.  I would have put the announcements in another thread since they'll be more dynamic than Rules and FAQs.

That was considered, but we decided no to add another subforum.

The thing about tech talk was that I had a daily reminder that I was a member of a national organization.  I have time to check email once or twice a day, never minded that reminder, and usually read it.  For all the benefits of the forum, I have to remind myself to go and log in, and then browse to see if there's something of interest.

From a pure solidarity point of view, I felt like more of a member, and valued my membership a little more with the daily reminders.  Now the only emails I get from the AHA are trying to sell me something or ask me to renew.

This is a great point. Well stated.

I have been using the Forum; and while I like it, I find it is more of a time sink than TechTalk. I login & check the Unread posts... either reading all or just those I find of interest, depending on how much time I have. I like the Forum, & will continue to use it, but I really look forward to TT2.

I'm more used to the Forum except for the following distinction:
TT provided us with questions which got answered.  It was to the point.
The Forum provides discussion.  Unfortunately with discussion comes more off topic diverse chatter that clouds the topic. There are plenty of answers to a question – the problem is that you have to wade through some junk to find the answers.  As a topic gets more responses, the amount of jibber-jabber get greater.  That's the "time sink" mentioned.   I'd rather have a root canal!

I'm guilty of adding to the time sink on some topics in the forum too.  By doing so I increase the ridiculous number of stars to the left under my name. I also get to be a "Master Brewer" faster and raise those posts number.

How juvenile am I?  What's more important?  The number of posts and responses or the quality of them?

I'm looking forward to TT2 too!

Is there a possibility of setting up separate RSS feeds for the different boards?  This would allow people to get RSS updates for only the boards they want to follow--thereby filtering out the bar talk if they wish.

I'm also supportive of the move to the forum but since I use RSS heavily to stay on top of what is going on (along with other news feeds that are non-brewing related), the above would make it easier for me to quickly see and respond to what is relevant.

Also, have you considered full-text RSS rather than just a few lines? I know the benefit of the current setup is driving people to the site to see the full post, but I have to admit my default is to pay less attention when I don't see everything.  Also, if I feel more inclined to participate, I would have to click through anyway to respond.

I would like to suggest that TT2 be an opt in service, rather than just automatic.  This may give you some accurate numbers as to how many really want this service.

I actually dropped TT before the term date because I've found the forum much more useful.

Was hoping we could get an update on a push-based, opt-in TT2 service.  Is there any chance it will be here in the next couple of months?  I don't begrudge people in the forum for liking it, and not liking TT.  I know forums and they are a great resource for what they are.  But they are NOT a replacement for TT and I am hoping that TT2 will soon fill in that hole in my daily routine that has been missing for a few months.  I can learn new things (in fact, that is what I do everyday), but for so many reasons, I like the email format better.  que sara sara.  In any case, is there a timeline?

We are still working with a provider to work out all the issues.  This is being done by a volunteer for the AHA, so it's on his schedule.  But it was a topic of discussion at our last GC meeting and is a high priority item for us.  I'd like to assure you that it will be done in the next couple months, but realistically all I can say is that we want it in place ASAP.
