Bonus points if you know the lyrics to the M*A*S*H theme song.

Suicide is Painless

That Comit song is old, I remember that from when I was a kid.

Top three gangster movies.

Top three war movies.

Toshiro Mifune is one of my favorite actors.  Will have to seek that one out!  For some reason I find myself inextricably favoring war movies, and comedies.  Somehow that puts Dr. Strangelove over the top!  But other great war movies (aside my earlier mention of the South African duo of Zulu and Breaker Morant) are The Great Escape, and Patton.  Das Boot is the sort of war movie I could watch only once (indeed, maybe I have only once!) but never quite shake loose.  Gallipoli is a good one.

Ms. Tubercle doesn't know them but said some solider on MASH thought he was dying and laid in a coffin on one of the episodes and sang them.

FYI...The lovely and talented Ms. Tubercle is the go-to source for TV and movie trivia, especially the old B&W stuff, songs including bands and lyrics from the 50's, 60's & 70's and baseball stats, mainly the Reds and Braves.

Yep, she kinda has it. The lyrics are heard only in Robert Altmans movie version of MASH. It is clinger laying in the coffin. He wants to kill himself and the others set up an elaborate scheme to make him change his mind. The song plays with the lyrics then. It is called Suicide is Painless.

Ms. Tubercle said thanks. She remembers it all now.

I beg to differ... It was the dentist "Painless" who was in the coffin.  He wanted to commit suicide because he lost the "lead from his pencil"  so he took the "Black Capsule."  The black capsule was not real.

The nurse, Lt. Dish, put the lead back in Painless' pencil and all was right in the world again.

I always liked the irony that the song sung while Painless tried to commit suicide is titled Suicide is Painless.

OOO, here it is now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVUXPjFWfX4

Oh my. The last supper? Da Vinci's Last Supper?

That is cool. That is awesome. I'm veclempt.

MASH is one of my favorite shows because it was also one of my Dad's favorites (Korea 2 years on the front- Purple Heart/Silver Star). When I see an episode I remember sitting on the couch watching it with him.

He said who ever came up the phrase "Hell freezes over" was there with him because it was and it did.

Painless was the "jawbreaker" (dentist).

No Klinger in the movie version.

Funny how the memory, or lack of plays tricks like that. At least with me. Bet I haven't seen MASH in twenty years. Time to watch it again. I remember loving Frank Burns, That is Frank Burns right, Robert Duval?

Who plays Radar? .....only kidding.
