Converted mini-fridge kegerator into fermentation chamber!
« on: November 11, 2010, 09:53:51 am »
Last month I built a new kegerator out of a chest freezer because I wanted to have more beers on tap.  I decided to convert my previous kegerator into a fermentation chamber.  It was super easy to do the conversion.  I'll be firing it up for the first time today. 8)

Oh, the scale is for weighing grain -- it has nothing to do with fermentation ;).

Dig it!!!!  Most of the mini's I can find won't hold a 6.5 gal carboy.  What brand and size is that?

Matt...that is simply marvelous!  :)

Thanks Ron!  Still looking forward to seeing your new kegerator!

JKL, it's a Kenmore Elite -- basically the same fridge as the Sanyo 4912.  If I remember correctly, it's a 4.6 cu ft fridge.  It fits a 6.5 gallon carboy but only after I removed the plastic shelf mold on the door.  I replaced the shelf mold with a custom cut piece of acrylic panel.  The panel fits like a glove, but in hindsight, I would probably go with a different material than acrylic, as it is pretty brittle.  In fact, it cracked in a few places where I drilled screw holes. >:(

Hey, this is a great idea.  I maybe switch to a chest freezer for kegging eventually so this gives me inspiration to use my old keg fridge for fermentation.  I could finally do lagers!  Brilliant!

I've been planning to do this conversion for a while, but was only recently able to make it happen.  It's a great way to repurpose your existing kegerator!
