...just as we in the southern US often are 'given away' by our accent and vocabulary.

 ..or lack of ;D

I was born in the south so I figure I'm not the one with the accent :P
Tubercle, you even type with an accent ;) ;D

One of these days I'll call you up and let you hear me talk :D :D :D

You just need to make the trip to SD in June.
Or is it that I need to come to SC in October with Cap?

Maybe both ;D

...Bavarians consider themselves as seperate and better..........
Kinda like Texans?
Bavaria was its own country.
Bavaria is the biggest state.
Bavarians have there own rustic clothes and hats.
Bavarian's have their own accent.
The Bavarian state flag and its design is used in many designs.

Yeah, kind of like Texas.

Bavaria is the biggest state.
Alaska is much bigger than Texas.  MUCH.

Well, Texas was the biggest until 1960 IIRC, and they still think so, at least when I visit family there.   ;)

But you are correct, Tom.  For the record, I have been to TX and Alaska.

One final comment.  When you were in Bamberg, did you ever talk to the locals about being Bavarian?  They will say they are not.

I just read that to my wife and she laughed...she said "Yes, Swabians like folks from Bamberg, because Bambergers don't think of themselves as Bavarians." (My wife is from Swabia...Stuttgart is her hometown)

Hey, you know what they say to Texicans in Alaska, "You better be nice or we'll cut our state in half, then you'll be the third largest state in the Union."

49th State on 1/3/59.

My memory was off, but I was only a little kid at the time.  I remember the talk of there being more states and how the flag was going to look with 50 stars.  I see Hawaii, the last state was August 21, 1959.

My mother-in-law was from Stuttgart.  My wife and her twin brother were born there but moved to the US when they were 1 year old.  My father-in-law was a US soldier stationed in Germany.

My parents lived in Bad Aibling from 1980 to 1988.  It was then I got to visit Bavaria and pretty much all of Europe.  I loved Bad Aibling and Rosenheim and Munchen and...

That's when I began learning about beer.  The local brewery was/is Schlossbrauerei Maxlrain

They inspired me to start brewing.  I could find nothing in the States at that time that compared.

I don't remember that coming up when I was there, but it sounds familiar for some reason. :-\   It was funny though, everyone I talked to seemed surprised that I had come to Bamberg specifically for the beer, and they asked if I had heard of smoked beer before.  ::) ;D  Good times.

I make fun of anyone who happens to be physically due south of me at the moment. People look at me funny when I get the compass out, though.

If you were a Scout you woudn't need a compass.
