Still over 100F everyday but the last few days we've seen clouds, that's a change.  It's already cloudy today, maybe we;'ll finally get some rain.  Other parts of New Mexico have gotten rain this week, so it should be our turn.  So far this year we're 5" below normal, but then 5" is normal for this time of year.

Phil, you can eat field corn, but the taste is not so good, and I do not recommend it.  If you look at the kernels on a new ear of field corn, they will look more like sweet corn, but when mature they have a dimple.  Field corn is sometimes called dimple corn.  The starch content is much higher, and the sugar is lower when the ear matures.  The flavor is then "starchy", and the kernels are tough.

Can I do nixtamalization and fix it? Great info though!
That fixes the lack of niacin and you won't get pallegra in a diet highin corn.  I don't know about the taste being improved.

I didn't realize it when I posted the link to that picture that the picture updates itself every 10 minutes.  When I posted the link to that picture last night the lava lake looked a lot like a woman's face.  The views are better at night.

If you zoom into the top left corner of the picture you can see a date/time stamp in Hawaiian Standard Time.

I live 22 miles from there.

No volcanic activity (touch wood), but it looks like this heat wave has finally hit Silverton. We came very close to 80°F today. :o

Oh the humanity!  Stay in the shade, drink lots of fluids, and don't over exert yourself!   :D

That's too bad Sean.  ;D

I was the judge director at The Delaware State Fair - Battle of the Brews yesterday, and it was a sultry 101F with a heat index of 116F. We (20 judges+10steward) had  consumed 100 Liters of water by the end of the day. The BOS round was interesting because when we narrowed the 16 down to 4, the beer was hot.  :o

All in all it was a great competition, all things considered.

It's gone from very hot and extra dry to very hot and pretty humid.  Everywhere else in the state is getting rain, but not us.

DEEP SURGE OF MONSOONAL MOISTURE

 8), NWS Warning
Stay out of the slot canyons today!

I love the monsoonal flow.  Really early this year, normally not until August afternoons.
My hops are loving it.
