One year when I was living in Knoxville they closed the schools on a *forecast* of 1/4-1/2 in. It ended up raining.

Yesterday they delayed the start for 2 hours because of the snow, and then after 2 hours of school we got calls to the home phone, cell phones, text messages to each cell, and emails, all saying that they were keeping the regular schedule but buses may start 30 minutes early.  And one email saying essentially "if you can, please come get your kids".  I don't know if it counts as a full day or not.

We've had them cancel school before when we had no snow, although if they have to close one school for snow they will close the entire district.  With the terrain here, you just never know what's going on over the next hill.  It can be snowing at our house, and raining less than a mile away (but 300 feet lower elevation).

You only lose 300 feet in a mile and call that a hill?   ::)

That's less than a 6% grade.  You could bowl on that!   ;)

You know Tom,
he will claim that he said "less than a mile away"
and that could range anywhere from 99 to 6% slope. :D

The excitement of a possible snow day is awesome.  Good luck with that.

We actually had a "powder" day here.  If you call 6 inches a powder day. ::)
Can't even bend a knee into that.

I am about ready to give up on an actual winter.
There are neotropical migrants here that have not even left town yet!
Balmy.

Could be a rough water year
if we don't get some significant snow late winter/spring.

Folks around here are already worried. The fire department used about 40% of the reservoir keeping the brewery from burning down.

In hindsight, I could have told them not to go to any trouble. ::)

Don't be bitter,
they had a wicked awesome Berliner Weiss on tap this fall.   ;)

Hope you got out on the fresh.  Gotta take it when you can this year.

6" of snow Monday through Tuesday and then below zero!!! not to mention wind chill. Where is the humanity? Crap this is Wisconsin. Just saw the record low -38f, I was in high school then and it was normal then.

Not complaining now, because I have to pay for the gas for heat.

True, it's not a uniform grade, the worst of it is about 10%.  But yeah, we call that a hill.  Specifically, Union Hill.  I didn't name it. ;D

We got the call already, no school tomorrow either.  Fun times with the kids, got some more sledding in today.  Hopefully it doesn't turn to rain too quickly tomorrow.

From what the weather report is, it may never turn to rain here, just more snow.  Then again it's almost worse if it rains, because it won't be nearly enough to melt all of the snow and then it will turn to ice overnight.  I'm beginning to wonder if school will be cancelled Friday too.

Good times though, lots of family time and plenty of supplies to hold us over ;)

It's been snowing above 1000' for days. Today was a constant downpour throughout the Willamette valley and now it's 50* with howling wind and more rain.  Cryin' wont help you, prayin' wont do you no good.

It has been cold and we are now getting a little snow.  My last 3 brew sessions were in below freezing weather.

I haven't picked up my snow shovel yet this winter.  About another month or so and we should be out of the woods for this season.
