How about India Black Ale? Like DFH's India Brown Ale.

I think if they ever make it a style thats what they'll go with

Just to be clear, I have no qualms about the style. For me it is purely semantics. I am no style nazi. But, IMO "Black IPA" has a certain ring to it I like better than India Black Ale (IBA). I just get hung up on the Black/Pale part. If you could change the "P" to another term that would better reflect the beer that would make more sense.

I didnt want to get into politics but:
We have a man residing in the White House who is half American (white), half Kenyan (black) and raised by his white Grandparents yet he is our first black President?

Its a Black IPA  ;D

There ya go, now don't you feel better?
And it was funny!
Thanks for sharing.

"P" can be piceous (which means brownish-black) - but then if you use black it's redundant -
and if you omit black it's confusing to the original IPA.
BTW - that's \pie*see*us\

I dunno Major, I have a ton of black friends. On more than one occasion, I have seen them go pale!  ;D

Would IBA, in place of IPA, make you feel better?

Keith - don't know if you get Stone by you, but if you do, see if you can get Stone Sublimely Self Righteous.

That beer sums it all up perfectly. Easily the most "wow" factor I've gotten out of a commercial beer in over a year, maybe longer.

Sounds like an interesting beer.  I just made a red ale by adding 2 oz of roasted barley to my blonde ale recipe.  Fantastic results, completely different beer with just a little bit of roasted barley.  I'm sure that the 1/2 pound will make it quite black but I bet it will be fun to drink.

Real simple......7.5# 2 row, 1# carapils, and an undetermined amount of roasted barley. Maybe 1/8 #.

1 oz Cascade FWH
1.5 oz Cascade @ 60
.5oz Cascade @ 30
1 oz Cascade @ 15

My "RedHeaded Stepchild" is similar to this recipe.  It is 2 row, carapils, wheat malt, and 2 oz of roasted barley.  It has a very nice red color to it and a nice mild roasted flavor.

I brewed a Black IPA a few weeks ago.  It turned out great.  As suggested by my wife we're calling "Darker Shade of Pale", with a nod to Procol Harum.
