Black IPA underway
« on: November 27, 2009, 01:48:17 PM »
I posted a couple days ago about mixing .5# of roasted barley in my IPA grain bill, at the LHBS. I got all picked out that I reasonably could. The brew is under way, but I now seem to have a black IPA. Oh well. I'm still making beer, eh?  ::)

Keith, do drunk you think you is?

And weaze, most beer styles were mistakes... Stout for example, imagine the cheap bastard that burned his barley and made beer with it anyway. Post pics, I'm interested.

"Brew beer" is a very loose term I use for what I do.

ha. ha. ha. FWIW it is not the beer that bugs me, it is the semantics.  :P I love the idea of a Black IPA - even asked Babalu for a recipe recently) I just wish someone would come up with a more clever name. Not me. I've tried. I'm not clever enough.  ::)

Deschutes  Brewery has a Black IPA at their Public House.  Here is the info from their site:

Hop Switch Black IPA
Pub Exclusive
The Black IPA (becoming widely known as a ‘Cascadia’ Ale for it’s inception here in the Pacific NW. Made with wonderfully complex dark malts and a myriad of hop varieties, you might just find yourself rethinking your favorite beer.

Just doesn't make sense. How can something be Black and Pale? The term "pale ale" came about because the beers were not brown or black.

How about India Black Ale? Like DFH's India Brown Ale.
Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.

It's an oxymoron; like Jumbo Shrimp.
Why does it have to make sense? It's just a name not a new style.

I didnt want to get into politics but:
We have a man residing in the White House who is half American (white), half Kenyan (black) and raised by his white Grandparents yet he is our first black President?

Its a Black IPA  ;D
