Brown Ale Recipe Critique
« on: April 12, 2011, 11:19:06 am »
Hey Guys, This is what I came up with for maiden voyage batch on my new 1/2 barrel system.  I wanted to go with something middle of the road but It looks like if my effeciency improves with this system I might have a pretty big beer.  My old system was around 65% eff so I based it off of that and bumped it to 70%.  I hope the new grain mill will improve it to at least that.  Let me know what you think.  I didn't really know where to go with the hop combination so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Not a comment on your recipe per se (except for the fact that it looks like you put it in there twice), but if you've been using LHBS crushed grain and now you've got your own mill, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at your efficiency bump - I expect you'll do a lot better than 70%.

Maybe I should scale it back?  I wasn't really looking for a 6%er.

I've brewed my fair share of Brown ales.  Since you have the chocolate malt in there you might consider going with 60L instead of 120L.
