Hot Water
« on: December 18, 2010, 11:43:35 am »
For those of us who brew in garage man caves, without sinks:  I hooked up a hose to the outlet on the bottom of the water heater.  Wow!  Super source of hot water.  No more hauling in and out of the kitchen.  Will make the wife happy (wishful thinking).  A lot of you have probably discovered this a long time ago, but it was quite an idea for this brain to develop on its own.  Cheers!

Pretty darn good idea that one. And I brew right next to mine.

If you have mineral laden water, it might be a good idea to flush the water heater a little before you brew.  5 gallons might be enough.  If your water is low in hardness and alkalinity, you are good to go.

My last water heater lasted around 8 years.  The plumber said to flush once a quarter to extend the life.  Draw off 5 gallons into a pail and let it set for a day or 2.  If not much has settled out, no problem.  If it look slike mine, you will know what I am talking about!

A local brewery uses a hot liqour tank, that is at strike water temps.  They don't have problems, but they have water from Lake Huron.  I have gound water, which is full of minerals.

When the house was built, I had a hot and cold tap installed in the garage.  That was a good decission.

Way to go Denny! Floor drain... Jealous.

I have the 2.5g Ariston under my kitchen sink. Love it!

When we did the garage remodel the floor drain was #1 on my list.  The floor has a 1/8"/ft. slop[e down to it.  Enough to get the water to drain but not enough to be very noticeable.
