What I love best about pets, dogs in particular, is that they are WYSIWYG.

No hidden agendas, no deceit, they wear their hearts on their sleeve, right out there in the open.
There is only one success: to be able to spend your life in your own way.

When our Bloodhound left us, my Vet made a donation to K-state Pet tribute
in her honor and I got a letter about it....I paid it forward to another forum member.
Since I do not know your particulars I will just share the site with you.  It really is a
good thing and a way to memorilize your lost love...+1 to what Cap said ::)

Such a bummer, here's a pint of Haand Bryggeriet Dark Force to her memory.

@Cap, I sympathize but as I sit here listening to my puppy dreaming in the corner I have to completely disagree.  It is the pain of losing them that reminds you of the worth of caring for them in the first place. ;D :'( :-\

I understand.

My dog story is unspeakable though. I dont even talk about it. Ever. It is such though that I will never ever have dogs again.

Im into pets, we have a giant green Iguana, and gold fish. Never again dogs though.

Plus they are a lot of work, travel can be a problem and they make your house stink.

Our condolences. We adopted Daisy the beagle when she was 2. Neither of us had a dog before. We will be totally wrecked when she passes. But I doubt we will ever be without a dog again. Just came back from a 3 week roadtrip to Virginia with her. Good times.

My Dad made the choice to not have another dog when his Beagle was killed when he was young. Just a coincidence that we got one?

No offense - but thats a really bad reason not to have dogs. The amount of joy they bring when they are around more then compensates for the grief the leave when they pass. I have to have dogs in my life.

Sorry for your loss loop. That sucks.

Cap,

 Get you another dog.
It sucks to loose one after 3 or 5 or even 10 years. Just think how hard it would be after 40 or 50 years.

God don't let them live that long for our well being.

I know what you guys are saying. But if you heard the story you would understand. I just cant go into it. BTW, we are talking about three dogs. All gone at the same time. :'( I shouldn't have said anything.

Either  way I cant have a dog right now. Both my wife and I work all kinds of hours. Plus I think we are going to be headed to an apartment for a while. It just wouldn't be fair to the dog.

Maybe later, when I retire. No wait I forgot. Im gonna have to work till I drop.

I sympathize with your situation, I really do.

I lost some I didn't think I would ever get over and guess I really haven't.

 Its weird.

It is a wonderful thing how they become part of your family.

Sorry again Loopy. It is the worst kind of broken heart.

BTW and off topic loopy. I finally got a hold of some wild pork from down there. Oh man is it good. The wild boar up here sucks. tastes like somebody peed on it.

How is Adam?, haven't heard from him in a while. Do you still see him?

Thanks everyone for these kind words, it means alot to me to hear the support and stories.

capozzoli, yeah I see Adam a few times a week and talk to him on the phone about the same.  He hasn't brewed beer in probably 3 years since he started having trouble with re-occurring gout in his foot.  He still makes occasional wine and mead for mostly the same reason I do; because both our wives drink it and enjoy it.

For dogs, I understand and respect your thoughts.  To me dogs are alot like children.  There really is never a "good time" to get one.  There is always some goal or some challenge in your life that you will be focusing on.  But after having multiple dogs and multiple children, I have not regretted any of them.  This week has been tough on me, I think I cried more for that lovable damn dog than I did when my grandfather died.  I am certainly not looking for a replacement for her either... but in time if I were to see another one in trouble I think I would try to keep an open mind.  Anyway, just sharing my thoughts on it - like I said I understand where your coming from.

Thanks again everyone for the posts in this thread; it has been very healing to read them over the past few days.

Well send Adam my regards. Hope he gets better.

I think of him every time I read the Foxfire book he sent me. Those books are awesome. I have since been seeking out other volumes.
